Został nam w oczach Jezus cierpiący,
skrzywdzony, obity, powieszony na krzyżu. A przecież
nie to było treścią Jego życia. Powiedział sam o sobie:
„Jam się na to narodził i na to przyszedłem na świat,
aby świadectwo dać prawdzie”.
I dawał świadectwo prawdzie.
Sobą i słowem. Aż do użalenia się nad grzesznicą.
Aż do „Błogosławieni pokój czyniący”.
Aż do wyganiania powrozami
kupczących ze świątyni. Aż do „Biada wam,
faryzeusze obłudnicy, rodzaju jaszczurczy”.
Czy przyznajemy się do takiego Mistrza? Co my
chrześcijanie zrobiliśmy z Jego „błogosławieni” i
„biada wam”? Przechowujemy je w świętych księgach. Co my
zrobiliśmy z Jego powrozami? Zawiesiliśmy
na ścianach kościołów jako relikwie. Czy naprawdę
nie ma do kogo już mówić „błogosławieni”,
„biada wam”? A może już
w tobie nie ma zachwytu dobrem, oburzenia na zło?
Sfilistrzałeś. Już nie jesteś taki
głupi, żeby mówić prawdę. Najwyżej
czekasz, aż kto inny
ją powie. Aż kto inny
chwyci za powrozy.

We’re left with the image of suffering Jesus;
hurt, beat up, hanging on the cross. But
this was not the essence of his life. He said about himself:
“For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth”

And He was giving testimony to the truth.
With His word and as a person. As far as taking pity on a sinner
As far as “Blessed are the peace makers”.
As far taking whips and driving the sellers
out of the temple. As far as “ Woe to you
Pharisees, hypocrites, brood of vipers”.

Do we want to acknowledge this kind of Master? What did we, the Christians, do with His “blessed are” and His
“woe to you”? We keep them in the holy books. What did
we do with His whips? We hung them
on the church walls as relics. Is there really
nobody to say “blessed are”
and “woe to you” anymore? And maybe
there’s no admiration for goodness within you, no indignation at evil?
You’ve become narrow-minded. You are not so
stupid to tell the truth anymore. At most
you are waiting for someone else
to say it. For someone else to
grab the whips.
