Goście idą.

Już się zbliża Maria z Józefem.
Za chwilę zapukają do drzwi twojej gospody.
A u ciebie pełno. Oszuści, włóczęgi,
niebieskie ptaki, cwaniacy, donosiciele.
Pełno krzyku, przekleństw, wulgarnych śpiewów. Po
kątach
trwa handel. Na ławach śpią pijacy.
W całym domu bałagan, brud, zaduch.

Co zrobisz, gdy usłyszysz pukanie? Z łbem rozczochranym,
brudny, rozchełstany wyjdziesz do bramy, odgarniesz
zmierzwioną czuprynę, głowa ci jeszcze pęka od
wczorajszego przepicia – co powiesz, gdy usłyszysz
Matkę Najświętszą i świętego Józefa
proszących o nocleg? Tylko jedno: miejsca nie ma.

Ale masz szansę. Jeszcze możesz zdążyć.
Usuń póki czas ze swojego domu niecnych biesiadników.
Otwórz szeroko okna i drzwi. Niech
wejdzie świeży powiew wiatru.
Wyszoruj ławy i podłogę. Posprzątaj.
Stoły przykryj czystymi obrusami.
Ty sam się umyj. Włóż szatę godową.

Abyś, gdy zapukają, mógł ich do wnętrza zaprosić.

Guests are coming.

Mary and Joseph are already on their way.
In a  moment or two they will knock on the door of your inn.
Your house is crowded with tricksters, tramps,
layabouts, hustlers, informers.
There’s so much noise, dirty words, obscene songs.
Trade is flourishing in the corners of the room.
Drunkards are sleeping on the benches.
In your stuffy house there is mess, dirt and filth.

What will you do when you hear knocking on your door?
You’ll come down all tousled, dirty and scruffy,
you’ll rake the disheveled crop of hair,
you’ll have a splitting headache and a hangover – what will you say,
when you hear Mother  Mary and Joseph
asking you for a place to stay? Only one thing: there’s no room here.

But you still have a chance. You can still make it.
Get rid of the wicked visitors before it’s too late.
Open the windows and doors. To get
some fresh air into the house.
Cover the tables with white table- clothes.
And wash yourself. Put on your best garment.

So that you are ready to invite them in, when they knock on your door.
