A obok krzyża stała Matka Jego

     Gdy już tak się stało, że Jezus został wydany, uwięziony, ubiczowany, cierniem ukoronowany, że szedł z krzyżem i upadał pod jego ciężarem, a potem został przybity do krzyża na Golgocie, to mógł Bóg oszczędzić Jego Matce tych widoków. Mógł nie dopuścić do tego, by widziała swojego Syna skazanego, ubiczowanego, cierniem koronowanego, by nie szła z Nim pod górę Kalwarii. By nie słyszała, jak Go przybijają do krzyża. By Go nie widziała wiszącego na krzyżu. Mógł Jej oszczędzić Pan Bóg tego widoku.
     Ale gdyby Ją spytać, co by wolała, to nie mamy wątpliwości, żeby powiedziała, że chciała Mu towarzyszyć w Jego cierpieniach, w Jego umieraniu. Przecież to Jej Syn.

And near the cross stood His Mother

     If it already so happened that Jesus was betrayed, jailed, scourged, crowned with thorns, that He was carrying the cross and falling under its weight, and then was nailed to the cross on Golgotha, God could have at least saved His Mother from seeing these images.  He might have not let her see her son condemned, scourged, crowned with thorns, He might have not let her follow Him up the Calvary Mountain; so that she would not hear how they nailed Him to the cross, so that she would not see Him hanging on the cross.  God could have spared her that sight.
     But if you asked her what she would have preferred, we have no doubts that she would say that she wanted to accompany Him in His suffering, in His dying.  After all, it is Her Son.
